SINGAPORE – Eighteen people were taken to hospital following an accident which resulted in a lorry being turned on its side in Boon Lay on Aug 28.
The incident took place at the junction of Jalan Tukang and Tukang Innovation Grove at around 7am.
In response to queries from The Straits Times, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said: “Upon arrival, one person was found trapped in the driver’s seat of a lorry and was rescued by SCDF using hydraulic rescue tools.”
SCDF added that 13 of the injured people were taken to the National University Hospital, while the other five were sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
In response to queries from ST, the police said the 18 injured people were all conscious when taken to hospital and comprised two male lorry drivers, aged 30 and 35, and 16 male passengers, aged between 24 and 55.
They added that the 35-year-old driver is assisting with investigations, which are ongoing.
A video of the aftermath of the accident on social media shows an overturned white lorry flipped on its side straddling a road divider.
A host of people are seen helping to move debris from the road, while others wait on a pavement nearby.
The Traffic Police said on Aug 28 that there were more accidents and more people getting injured in the first half of 2026 than in the same period in 2025.
The number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries increased from 3,748 in the first half of 2025 to 3,869 in 2026. Injuries rose from 4,894 in the first half of 2025 to 5,090 during the same period in 2026.
However, the number of fatalities fell from 79 in the first half of 2025 to 61 in the first half of 2026, and the number of fatal accidents dropped from 78 to 60.
